Some models have brushes - similar to an Electrolux, and some are called "Steamers" or "Steamer Shampooers" (without brushes - similar to a Bissell). I truly believe that the rental machines (in the grocery and hardware stores) do a beautiful job, are in excellent condition and very affordable....so you save in not having to pay so much money to own one.
